Biography
Kerube Ortiz, the leader and accordionist of the band, was born in Santiago Rodríguez, Dominican Republic. As a child, his father bought him his first accordion, which had 10 notes. With practice, Kerube became a skilled player and performed at small parties and social gatherings. In the 1990s, Kerube formed Kerube Ortiz y su Cojunto Tipico in New York, where the population of Dominican typical merengue musicians was beginning to grow. He later formed La Kerubanda and debuted on June 9, 2004, on a television show called “El Show de Nelson.” His first live appearance was in Santiago Rodríguez on June 18, 2004.
